Yesterday

Imagine that yesterday

Is gone forever.

In your mind

In your thoughts

All your attachment

Gone with the wind.

Imagine that tomorrow

Will be unlike today.

And the day after

As uncertain as hell.

Are you scared?

You like the past?

Holding on to what was?

What if you notice

That all your life

You were stuck somehow

Never grew up

Never really a child

Getting confused now?

Way to go!

Need a compass?

Want to navigate?

Let it go

Your beloved past

Does not mean

You have to erase

The ties of love

Or the traces of laughter

And shared memories

Leaving behind

Is an act of courage

And endless self-love

It cuts your throat

Right through the heart

Makes you sob

Like a weeping child

Makes you laugh

Like a lunatic on drugs

Until you understand

There is no better life

Than the one just now

With all the tears

The burning heart

The many regrets

And the many mistakes

And waves of love

And moments of success

That all make up

The beauty of your being

Written in the wrinkles

Around your eyes

And tattooed on your skin

Still not certain?

If today is the day?

Want to wait longer?

Want to suffer more?

Still hoping that

Death never comes

And your better life

Just knocks on the door?

Who are you today?

If tomorrow you ask

When was the day

When I let go of the old

To embrace the new

To welcome the lightness

And the sunshine inside.

Yesterday that was!

When my old self died.

And made room for a gift

I call myself.
