Lebanon Poetry Project

On Oct 7, 2023. I was in Lebanon. A few days after, I left the country. The foreigners were made to leave. Those who could, stayed. Some returned. I have not returned yet. I will in the future. But my thoughts are with those who live through this war without a name. It is one of the countless wars in Lebanon. This project is not meant to blame, analyze, predict or convince. It is simply meant as a platform to give those a voice who want to express themselves. And it showcases these voices, so others all over the world can learn about their stories outside the box of public news channels and political agendas.

Why "Poetry"?

Poetry has the power to express many things and feelings in just a few words. But the term „poetry“ here is not meant as a strict category. You can write poems, short essays, songs, or whatever else wants to be expressed through the pen or the keyboard in your hands.

Examples: „Guilt„, „Madame“ (Silke), „Ewiger Karsamstag“ (Tabea)

FAQs

Anyone. This project is open to Lebanese, people living in Lebanon, people living all over the world with some inner connection to Lebanon. You do not need prior writing experience or any other „profile“ when it comes to proffesional authorship.

The texts will be collected and published on this website. After the first round of contributions, all contributors together with a team of editors and our partners will select a number of texts to be published in print at the end of 2024.

Yes! In that case, please let us know when you submit your text.

Yes, if you want to. We are planning on hosting online and offline reading events.

English, German, French, Arabic

This is not a grammar or foreign language contest! Art is free and what counts is what you express. If you want us to edit or if we notice things that might need changes, we can talk about it.

Too short is not possible, there is no minimum number of words. If your text is too long, i.e., more than 1000 words, you will have to shorten it.
